TV Programming the Whole Family can Enjoy

Last summer when the Olympics were on, my whole family got into it. It was something that we all enjoyed watching together, and it generated healthy conversation about the sports and athletes.  

Ever since then, I’ve kept an eye out for TV shows that all of us can enjoy together. With so many available, it can be hard to find shows that are clean enough for the kids to watch, yet interesting enough for the grownups to want to watch too. Here’s my list of TV shows that are both kid and parent approved:


America’s Got Talent

Channel :: NBC, Tuesdays at 7:00, returning May 30

What’s It About? :: This variety show features unique acts of all ages and talents from across the country. America votes on their favorite singer, dancer, comedian, or novelty act to win the $1M prize. Fun and safe TV programming that’s sure to interest your kiddos!

American Ninja Warrior

Channel :: NBC, Monday at 7:00, returning June 12

What’s It About? :: Cheer on these amazingly fit competitors as they tackle various challenging obstacle courses. If your kid gets really into it, consider taking them to Obstacle Warrior Kids in McKinney where they can work on their own ninja skills on a variety of kid-sized obstacles!

Cesar Millan’s Dog Nation

Channel :: Nat Geo Wild

What’s It About? :: Cesar Millan takes an RV trip across the country, stopping at cities along the way to give dog lovers simple take home tips and help with tough problems.

Fixer Upper

Channel :: HGTV

What’s It About? ::Everyone loves Chip & Jo, and kids are no exception! They have the most adorable family, and their four children are involved in every episode. From demo day to the final design touches and everything in between, this is a TV show that appeals to the whole family.

Kids Baking Championship

Food Network

What’s It About? ::Eight talented young bakers are competing for the title of Kids Baking Champion and are judged on their presentation, taste, and creativity. This sweet show is sure to entertain and may even inspire your littles to help out in the kitchen!

Little Big Shots

Channel :: NBC, Sundays at 7:00

What’s It About? :: This pint-sized variety show features elementary school aged kids from all over the United States and the world with unique talents. Steve Harvey is the host and engages the kids in interviews that always produce hilarious results.

Sports

What’s It About? :: It’s always more fun to watch your favorite team or sport when the whole family is cheering on! 

The Zoo

Channel :: Animal Planet

What’s It About? :: A behind-the-scenes look at the Bronx Zoo focuses on its thousands of animals, hundreds of employees, and mission to conserve wildlife around the world. It’s sure to keep your kids interest and spark interesting conversations about animals!
