For all those who think that Valentine’s Day is an overly commercial, manufactured holiday—I see you, I hear you, and I don’t even disagree with you. HOWEVER, for many of us, date nights can be few and far between, especially when free family babysitters aren’t an option. Valentine’s Day motivates us to make time for our relationships, and I welcome that kind of motivation these days. So let’s be corny this year. Let’s take Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to strengthen our romantic relationships and make some memories.
But what to do? Don’t even worry about it! Here’s all the inspiration you need for a romantic Collin County Valentine’s date with your honey.
February 7 :: Sushi Ra in the Shops at Legacy offers Roll of Attraction, an aphrodisiac sushi rolling class for couples. Make and eat several types of sushi rolls while sampling three varieties of sake and JCB #69 Sparkling Rosé. Their red lantern-lit ambience plays nicely into a Valentine’s Day date, don’t you think? 8-9:30pm, $45 per person.
February 8, 13, 14 :: Alamo Drafthouse can always be counted on when it comes to fun dates. Have a bunch of cocktails and sing along at the Moulin Rogue-watching party February 8 and 13. Or heckle (and secretly ogle) Jamie Dornan at the Rowdy Screening of Fifty Shades Freed.
February 8, 9, 10, 14:: Another extremely date-y spot is eight11, the house-turned-wine bar in Downtown Frisco. February 8 they host a special wine tasting event with New Zealand winemaker Erica Crawford. 6:30 pm, $25 per person. Or come another night and feast on one of their shareable boards as you toast to being such a good-looking couple.
Februrary 9, 10 :: Rover Dramawerks in Plano presents Murderous Crossing, this year’s interactive Valentine murder mystery show. Dress in your 1920’s best and assist Inspector Clurrot on his mission to stop a homicidal maniac from ruining a royal wedding. 7pm, $90 per couple.
February 10 :: The Sanctuary Music & Events Center in McKinney hosts a Love The One You’re With Valentine’s concert tonight. Cocktail tables downstairs and on the balcony (seats 4) are $100. General admission (SRO) tickets on the upstairs balcony are $10. All tickets include complimentary desserts and coffee.
February 10 :: Share a potter’s wheel at Quiggly’s Clayhouse in Richardson for the Down & Dirty Couples Pottery Wheel Event. First, a beginners lesson; then you put on a blindfold while your partner helps you throw a piece; then you switch. What’s the over/under on Ghost references at this thing? Two different sessions to choose from, 6-7:30 or 8-9:30. $70 per couple, reserve your spot in advance. Oh, and it’s BYOB!
February 14 :: You can also get arty at Color Me Mine in Frisco for their Valentine’s Day Paint by Candlelight class for couples. Table reservations are $20 and includes up to two hours at a private table + complimentary chocolates.
February 14 :: Jasper’s in Plano has an eclectic four-course Valentine’s menu available from 5-10 pm for $75 per person. Or pretend you’re on an island vacation at Tommy Bahama, with seafood, cocktails, chocolate truffles, and live music on the patio. This really doesn’t even need to be said, but reservations are a must for literally all of these dinner dates.
February 14 :: The Holy Grail Pub is for a laid-back and cozy evening out. They have a five-course Valentine’s Dinner designed to showcase unique and varied flavors when paired with craft beer. 7pm, $65 per person.
February 14-18 :: Bonnie Ruth’s in Frisco is such a cute date-night bistro, and they’re offering a four-course Parisian prix fixe menu for $65 per person. Fingers crossed that it’s warm enough to sit on the patio under the string lights.
