A Colorful New Neighbor in Plano: Crayola Experience

Collin County Moms Blog received complimentary admission into the Crayola Experience Plano on Media Day to write this post. All opinions are 100% our own!

As a former kindergarten teacher and current mom of three boys ages 10, 5 and 2, when I think of crayons, I immediately think CRAYOLA! So, I was excited to find out that a Crayola Experience was coming to Plano. I knew this was something that not only my children would love, but me as well! I mean, who doesn’t love the smell of a freshly opened box of crayons!? My youngest and I got a chance to play and explore all that the Crayola Experience Plano has to offer. Here is a little bit of information to know before you go.

Plan Your Visit

The Crayola Experience is located inside The Shops at Willow Bend. They open at 10 am everyday but closing times vary by the time of the year.  Find the exact hours here. My suggestion would be to park in parking lot F, right next to Macy’s.  The cost of admission at the door is $20.99/person for ages 3+ (kids 2 and under are FREE). You can save $2 by purchasing your tickets online.  Your admission ticket gets you entrance into the facility as well as two tokens to use: one at Wrap It Up! and one at Model Magic (I’ll explain a little further down). Since this is the kind of place I see myself bringing my kids more than once (i.e., when we need to escape the HOT Texas heat), I am seriously thinking of getting their annual pass.  It’s $30.99/person for the year and can be used at any of their locations: Florida, Minnesota and Pennsylvania.

What to Expect

Plan to spend at the very least two hours discovering all the things. My two year old and I were there from 11:30am to 2:30pm and I still feel like we could have stayed a bit longer, but he was ready for a nap and his brothers were getting home from school any minute. When I take the older kids, I plan to make a day of it. Some of the activities are perfect for toddler ages and attention spans. Below is a list of all that you’ll find at the Crayola Experience.

  • *Wrap It Up!- pick your own Crayola crayon color and personalize your own label-very cool!
  • *Modeling Madness-play and sculpt with Model Magic, a unique fluffy compound
  • Be A Star-make your own coloring sheet where you’re the star!
  • Silly Selfies-star in your own animation
  • Colossal Caddy-color at a huge crayon caddy with thousands of Crayola crayons at your fingertips
  • Melt and Mold-watch as your favorite crayon gets melted into a neat keepsake; this one was exciting!
  • Drip Art-create a fun masterpiece with melted crayon wax. This was fun to watch and see the final product.
  • Kaleidoscope-you become the work of art in a swirling explosion of color and light
  • Meltdown-paint with melted crayon wax
  • You Design-design, scan and digitally accessorize a fashion outfit or car and how it looks on the big screens
  • Stomp and Play-much fun was had at this interactive floor that responds to your motion
  • Cool Moves-become one of the Crayola crayons when you step in front of the special screens that mirror you
  • Adventure Lab-use a magic tablet to get through puzzling challenges
  • Color Playground-tw0-story climbing playground- great to burn off some energy!
  • Scribble Square-color outside the lines in the Texas-sized neighborhood with Crayola super bright chalks
  • Color Magic-turn your coloring pages into a real-life adventure. I was feeling very tech savvy here!
  • Paint Palette-different themed art works singing Crayola paints- and there is a drying oven to get your art work ready to take home immediately!
  • Activity Studio-color, cut and paste through different projects
  • Crayon Factory Theatre-a live theatre show that shows you how crayons are made Crayola Expereince_Plano

*Wrap It Up! and Modeling Madness require a token.  Your admission ticket includes two tokens that can be used at these stations. If you wish to purchase more tokens (to get more crayons to wrap or packages of Model Magic, those tokens can be purchased for $0.50/each.

A few more tips

  1. There’s a nursing room right next to the restrooms that is very convenient for mommas of little nursers.
  2. The activities where additional fees apply are: the Trading Post (Crayola premium craft experience), Snack Shack, Cafe Crayola, Sweet Shop (all of which provide a quick bit to eat or refreshments) and the Crayola Store. I could shop at the Crayola Store for hours getting all the paints, markers, crayons, and model magic there are!
  3. The Crayola Experience offers party packages! You can contact: [email protected] or call 469-642-2901 to find out more about having a birthday party, team building event, field trip, or fundraiser here!
  4. If you become an annual passholder, you also get 20% off at the Crayola Store, 20% off at Cafe Crayola, 10% off Birthday Party Packages, 10% off Crayola After Dark tickets, and other monthly deals and special offers. Click here to learn more about becoming an annual passholder.
  5. Plan to be very involved with your littles when you visit.  Many attractions (especially for kids ages 2-4) may require adults to help to speed things along in order to see other fun things.
  6. Plan to have lots of FUN!
