The Big Breakup

One of the saddest things in life is when friends grow in opposite directions. There are so many seasons of life that can cause this kind of distance. Marriage. Babies. Moves. The list goes on. Five years ago this very thing happened with two of my closest friends. They insisted we just weren’t a fit anymore. Things spiraled from there until we were no longer spending time together. Here’s a picture of my two friends.

Before I got married and had children, I was pretty happy with my body image. I’ve never been super thin, but my athletic build was one I was once proud to rock. Since then, my weight has yo-yoed up-and-down. I’ve tried every fad diet out there, and have been a proud member of weight watchers at least three times. I got results with most of the options I chose, but the number on the scale always seemed to creep back up.

When my boss told me about Utopia Food and Fitness, I was intrigued. Fresh, chef prepared meals (and snacks) that actually tasted good? Plus they only require two 20 minute workouts per week. Two! I was busting my booty 4 times a week for an hour in hot yoga, and not still not seeing results. Two twenty minute workouts? That I could do!

I wasn’t sure how I felt about cutting back from 6 cups of coffee to 1, or about nixing my daily happy hour beverage, but I decided I was motivated enough at that point to commit for six weeks. I officially signed up with Utopia and began their six week program. Starting measurements were taken and weight was recorded. I even promised the owner that I wouldn’t cheat at all, if he could guarantee I would lose at least 15 pounds.

After the first two weeks I was completely used to my new eating and exercise regimen. I would even venture to say I enjoyed it! Instead of a granola bar each morning (because that’s all I had time to “make” myself), I had chef prepared sweet potato pancakes to look forward to eating. I looked forward to my workouts too! In fact, the trainer assigned to me even implemented an “above and beyond program” with additional machines, so I could maximize my time at the gym and weight loss.

Before I knew it my six weeks had come to an end. I actually found myself feeling a little sad to give up my personalized (yummy) meals and one-on-one training sessions. It was also so nice to have something just for me! Now for the important stuff, the results. I am happy to report I did reach my weight loss goal of 15 pounds, and 26.8 inches over my entire body! I am very pleased with my results and hoping I can continue to implement the invaluable tools Utopia Food and Fitness taught me.

Oh and as for my relationship with my “friends?” I have since rekindled my relationship with my denim friend, and we picked up right where we left off. My other friend and I still have some work to do on our relationship, but I’m hopeful we’ll spend time together again soon!
