Five Costco Member Perks Non-Members May Not Know {+ Register for #CostcoMomHour}

About six years ago, my husband and I became Costco Members.

Looking back it seems a little silly that we were members because at the time, our membership had only one purpose. Gift giving! It was just the two of us living in Frisco, and our closest warehouses were in Plano. While you wouldn’t see us hauling baskets of toilet paper or Pirate’s Booty out the door, we learning early that Costco has the best deals on toys, clothing, home decor, electronics, and books.

When it was time to shop for my dad and father-in-law (who’s birthdays are one day a part), my husband and I would browse the book and movie tables and could always find that perfect genre for each. When shopping for my sister-in-laws, I waited until they got in a shipment of Lucky brand women’s clothing and crossed their names off the list. And it couldn’t get any easier for business gifts for colleagues! Costco sells gift cards IN BULK to restaurants, movie theaters, and entertainment venues around the city.

Shopping for others came easy with Costco.

Fast forward six years later, and we now use Costco for EVERYTHING. And I mean everything! With three growing boys in our home, shopping needs to be simple and easy, and our grocery budget has to stay cheap. But thanks to Costco, it’s not just our grocery budget that’s thanked us. Costco has a few perks many non-members (and maybe even some members) may not know about, and I’m ready to give you the inside scoop!

I love celebrating the holidays, but with three boys, I’ve found some of my favorite traditions have fall away. For a few years, I even stopped sending Cards because of lack of time and finances…until I discovered Costco Photo Center.

Some online stores will charge $1.00 or more per holiday photo card, Costco Photo Center’s begin at $0.69 and have similar premium designs you’ll find elsewhere. Choose from Religious cards, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Years, or cards in Spanish.

You’ll also find photo cards for Quinceanera’s, Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s, Fourth of July, Graduation, Summer/Pool Parties, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and other fun holidays to help you stay connected with family and friends.

A Kirkland Baby Shower

With my first child, I only wanted the best. I sitting down one evening while pregnant and spending two hours reading up and researching the best “diaper” brands for my newborn. Two hours…just to read about diapers. (Live and Learn!)  Now that I have my 3rd, I’ve realized that what matters is quality products at an affordable price.

If I’d known then what I know now, I would have just registered at Costco. (Okay, so they don’t offer this service yet, but you get my point.) Costco offers all the basic baby gear at a reduced price without sacrificing quality. With your Costco Membership, you can stock up on:

  • Kirkland Signature Supreme Diapers (any size)
  • Kirkland Signature Baby Wipes
  • Kirkland Signature Infant Formula

Through Costco’s Photo Center, you can even purchase Baby Shower Invitations, announcements, and thank you cards.

Pharmacy & Optometry Savings

I find there are times in my life when I am filling prescriptions more than I’d like, and my wallet feels it too! Costco has a Member Prescription Program that allows members who have no prescription drug insurance or insurance doesn’t cover all of their prescription medication to benefit from Costco’s commitment to member care.

Savings are estimated up to 70% off, and can even include pet medications!

Car Care with Costco’s Tire Center

If you are looking to make car care easy, Costco’s Tire Center will help. Members pay only $15 per tire installation and will often see significant savings sets of new tires as compared to other shops.

No matter which type of tire brand you choose, Costco offers rotation, balance, inflation checks, and flat repairs for the life of the tire. Make an appointment to have your tires maintained while you get your shopping done!

Costco Home Financing

My husband and I have somehow found ourselves in a miraculous situation that through saving, planning, and a lot of “wheeling and dealing” we’ll be able to pay off our mortgage within the next 10 years. WARNING: Costco did not make this happen — just sheer luck (and a smart spouse!). BUT, we did discover through our last refinance that Costco offers mortgage services with discounts for Members, Executive Members and Gold Star Members.

If you’re looking into purchasing a home or refinancing, Costco Members could save an average of $4,472 over the life of a typical loan. Executive Members will also save on Lender fees making them $350 or less!

Through a happy coincidence, she stumbled upon (what was then known as) Dallas Moms Blog in 2012 and found a community she’d been looking for since coming a mom. Shortly after joining the team, she gratefully accepted the “baton” passed to her as new owner of the site, and took off with it running full speed! Krystal not only helped to grow Dallas Moms into a large parenting resource, but also launched Collin County Moms in 2016; providing those in the north Dallas suburbs their community resource platform. While building a community, uniting the moms, and growing a business around this passion was a dream come true, after almost 10 years, Krystal officially stepped down as owner, and is now focusing on raising her 4 boys with her husband, Tim, and rediscovering old hobbies.
