Fun and Fashionable Haircuts for Kids at Cookie Cutters

Collin County Moms Blog partnered with Cookie Cutters in Richardson to bring you this post. All opinions are 100% our own!

It’s that time of year- the long shaggy winter look just isn’t going to cut it in the hot summer of Texas. Both of my boys needed a fresh summer cut, and so I took them to check out the brand new Cookie Cutters location in Richardson (1360 W. Campbell Road, Suite 103 in the Lennox Center). They had already been complaining of their long locks getting sweaty on their necks and long bangs in their eyes. And after a soccer practice and tennis lesson in 90 degrees last week I decided it was high time for an easy breezy summer cut!

CARING AND CALM – FIRST TIME CUTS

My almost 3 year old’s hair has only been trimmed once; about a millimeter. That’s all I could handle at the time- get the bangs out of his eyes, and let’s move on! THIS time knowing what we’re up against (a toddler who refuses shampoo and hair brushes and quips: ’play’ bath, mama— not ‘wash’ bath), I decided to take the plunge and actually have his hair CUT.

The lovely ladies at Cookie Cutters were so sweet! They asked me if I’d like to save a lock of his hair, and took their time to study the Pinterest pictures I had on my phone as the ‘final look’ that I loved. They worked quickly because: well. . .toddler! BUT they made sure that I was happy watching on the sidelines so that nothing was too short too fast!

STYLISH SALON AND SENSATIONAL STYLISTS

Cookie Cutters is not only a great place for a “first cut” for kids,  it’s also a super-cool salon for children who need anything from a trim to a ‘new ‘do’!

They get to choose a shiny car to sit in (even a princess car!) and there’s an iPad station at each mirror so children can choose from an array of shows live streaming.

The stylists are kind and quick! They are clearly trained to handle kids of all ages and stages — first timers, pros, shy ones, and wiggly ones! They told my boys about each step that was about to happen; from the buckling up in the car to putting on the ‘magic cape’ to looking chin down or straight ahead and even touching the whirring buzzing machine that was about to shorten their hair so they wouldn’t be scared of the noise. Not only do they know their styles and cuts, they’re happy to work with any child with warmth and positive energy until the cut is complete.

My five year old insisted he have ‘short hair like papa’ and his long locks were buzzed off patiently while my three year old played on the indoor slide set (yes, did I mention that there’s actually something to do while you wait, IF you have to wait?). Cookie Cutters does take walk-ins, but they highly encourage making appointments and calling ahead, especially on weekends so that you are guaranteed to be served at a time that works in your schedule and not be kept waiting.

A FEW FINAL FINE POINTS

—Your kiddos will be offered balloons and lollipops when the cut is finished. (If your kids are sugar-free, make sure you mention that!)

—There IS a Monster Yogurt next door (with a play area as well) so if your kids spot it, be prepared to spend an extra 30 minutes while they choose gummy bears or mini M&M’s as a topping (or both!).

IF you go (and I really hope you do check it out!), mention that you saw this review on Collin County Moms Blog and you’ll receive $5 OFF each haircut!
